Seminar 42 Serving with Equanimity: A Buddhist's Chaplain's Reflections on Military Spiritual Care
In this session, Rev. Angélica Barrera-Ng, MDiv, reflects on her journey as a Buddhist chaplain serving at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) and the VA San Diego Health Care System. Through stories from her ministry, she explores how Buddhist practice can meet the unique emotional and spiritual needs of military personnel and veterans. Drawing on her work with new recruits and those healing from moral injury, trauma, and the stresses of service, Chaplain Angélica shares how mindfulness, compassion, and equanimity support resilience and recovery. Grounded in both Buddhist teaching and chaplaincy experience, her talk invites reflection on how inner calm and compassionate presence can transform suffering—within ourselves and in those we serve.
