Many of us love our pets—but what about the countless other animals who share this world with us? In this session of the Abhidharma & Life Seminar series, Heather-Marie Washburn invites us to reflect on our relationship with animals through a Buddhist lens. Whether they have fins, fur, or feathers, animals are sentient beings who, like us, move through the cycle of rebirth. From the perspective of Buddhist teachings, they are companions in samsara and part of the wider web of life to which we belong. This talk explores how paying closer attention to animals can deepen our sense of compassion, connection, and responsibility. Through stories and reflection, Heather-Marie encourages us to consider what animals might teach us—if we are willing to listen. Participants are warmly invited to join this conversation on compassion, interdependence, and our shared journey with all living beings.
