Seminar 72
Breathing Again
Recovering from an Abusive Relationship Through Buddhist Teachings

Picture
Have you ever wondered how Buddhist teachings can help us heal after deep emotional suffering?

Join Nanxi Liu for Abhidharma & Life Seminar 72: Breathing Again: Recovering from an Abusive Relationship Through Buddhist Teachings, a personal and thoughtful exploration of healing, resilience, and the path back to oneself after emotional abuse.

In this deeply reflective talk, Nanxi will share her experience of recognizing and leaving an emotionally abusive relationship, shedding light on the often-overlooked realities of coercive control, fear, and psychological manipulation. Beyond the difficult decision to leave, she will discuss the emotional aftermath that many survivors face—the loss of trust, confusion about one’s own perceptions, and the challenge of rebuilding a sense of safety and self-worth.

Drawing from both lived experience and Buddhist practice, Nanxi will explore how mindfulness, meditation, and the Dharma became sources of clarity and support during the healing process. Through reflections on suffering, attachment, compassion, and personal boundaries, she will examine how contemplative practice can help us better understand our experiences without becoming trapped by them.

This seminar will also consider important questions that many people struggle with: How do we recognize the signs of an unhealthy or abusive relationship? Why is it often so difficult to leave? What happens psychologically after we do? And how can Buddhist teachings help us navigate fear, grief, anger, and self-doubt while moving toward healing?

Whether you have personally experienced an abusive relationship, are supporting someone who has, or are interested in the practical application of Buddhist teachings to life’s challenges, this conversation offers an opportunity to reflect on the relationship between wisdom, compassion, and recovery.

Join us for an honest and compassionate discussion on reclaiming one’s voice, rediscovering inner stability, and learning how the Dharma can help us breathe again.
