One who is unable to overcome the temptation of wealth will be distressed by gain-and-loss; one who is unable to overcome the temptation of fame will be disturbed by praise-and-blame.
There is an Arab proverb that says, "For the sake of roses, you need to water the thorns". It means that you must endure hardship in order to stand out in this highly competitive society and achieve success.
One lay buddhist said, his son told him that he cannot say anything like what he said when he was young, because he already learnt how to express himself in a formal way. He cannot find his original intention anymore.
