There is an Arab proverb that says, "For the sake of roses, you need to water the thorns". It means that you must endure hardship in order to stand out in this highly competitive society and achieve success. Japanese mining magnate, Furukawa Ichibei once said: "Patience is the key to success." When he was young, Furukawa pooled money to purchase the Ashio Copper Mine. Many people laughed at him and said, "Furukawa must be mad! He will lose all his money for sure!" However, he didn’t care what others said. He still vigorously led people to mine, hoping to make a fortune from copper tailings. They continued on like this for two years without finding even a trace of copper. His employees began to complain and blame him. Furukawa simply gritted his teeth, controlled his anger, and persevered. Finally in the fourth year, copper was found and extracted. Since then, things have changed. Thanks to his patience, Furukawa Ichibei became a well-known tycoon in the Japanese mining industry. He said: "Everyone asks me what is the secret to success. In fact, it is very simple. Be patient and persevere until you succeed." A British writer once wrote: " If the rich can be patient, they could protect their families. if the poor can be patient, they could avoid humiliation. If fathers can be patient, they could be loving and kind. If sons can be patient, they could respect their elders. If brothers can be patient, they could be sincere and faithful. If friends can be patient, they could have lasting friendships. If couples can be patient, they could stay in harmony.” Learning patience can benefit you for life.
